County Training Programme – Selection
8U
Individual Coaches and / or Tennis Sussex are to nominate players who may have the ability to be part of the County Squad. These players will be invited to attend a “Tennis Sussex FUN Day” in November 2020 where the lead coach of the 8U team alongside other coaches associated with County Training at Mini Tennis level will be present to assess the suitability of the players to be part of the Squad. The squad be reviewed again in March 2021 alongside another “Tennis Sussex FUN Day” and if spaces allow and if required, new players will be added to the squad for April – July.
9U
Individual Coaches and / or Tennis Sussex are to nominate players who are not already involved and may have the ability to be part of the County Squad by the end of September 2020. These players will be invited to attend one of the squad sessions where the lead coaches of the 9U team will be present to assess the suitability of the players to be part of the Squad going forwards. Please note all players who were previously involved in last year’s County Training Programme and missed half of the year due to the pandemic will be automatically selected directly into the County Training Squad again for this year. The squad will be periodically reviewed and if spaces allow and if required, new players will be added to the squad.

12U – 18U
Please note all players who were previously involved in last year’s County Training Programme and missed half of the year due to the pandemic will be automatically selected directly into the County Training Programme again for this year. All players ranked inside the top 12 players in Sussex for their age group (based Year of Birth) who were not previously involved in the County Training Programme will be nominated to be considered by the selection panel. Rankings will be taken from the LTA rankings run at the time of selection (October 2020).
County Training Programme – Selection Criteria
A selection panel consisting of the County Performance Manager, County Adminstrator and County Age-Group Captain (where required) will then make the final selection based on the following:

All players will be selected by the panel based on a mixture of the following factors:
- Mini Tennis Rating (Orange/Green only)
- Performance in preceding County Training Programme (2019-2020) and other events / external tournaments.
- Level of involvement within LTA Player Pathway (National, Regional, County)
- Performance at County Open Day if applicable
- Attitude
11U 12U 14U 16U 18U
The top 6 players (top 8 boys and girls for 18U), based on their ranking after the first ranking run in September, will be awarded a direct County Training Squad place. The next 6 (4) players will be selected by the panel based on a combination of the following factors:
- Player ranking
- Player rating
- Performance in preceding County Training Programme (2019-2020) and other events / external tournaments.
- Level of involvement within LTA Player Pathway (National, Regional, County)
- Attitude
- Commitment to a regular training programme
Players selected will receive an invite from the Tennis Sussex Team providing them with information of the training dates, times, venue and payment process. Players will be expected to pay a subsidised rate of £130 for the year (10 session of 2 hours) to help cover some of the costs of coaches and court fees.
County Cup & other Team Events – Selection
Players selected for County Training (or Regional / National training) in 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U age groups will automatically be in contention for the County Cup and any other County team events.
