Pav & Ave player Ivan enjoyed a memorable experience this week when playing the against other County winners at the Road to Wimbledon on the famous grass Courts at SW19. Ivan won through his group stages to reach the last 32 in the County and even had the wet summer weather to deal with with a lengthy delay to his first match with rain delaying play.
Whilst Covid restrictions sadly meant no players party or a visit to the Museum this year, Ivan was still able to experience a life as pro when eating in the same players restaurant as the likes of Andy, Novak, Roger and Rafa do during the Championships as well as using the same changing facilities as they do, Ivan only disappointment the Ice Baths not being available
Other highlights were having your own personal name board for the Scoreboards, a Q&A with Dan Bloxham (Head Coach AELTC) he is also Wimbledon Master of Ceremonies, The Master of Ceremonies’ role is technically to invite players to play on Centre Court. He takes the two players to court before each game and is watched by around 150 million people on the walk before the final. A second Q&A was held with Colin Beecher former ATP top 300 player. He was captain of the Great British side which made the Junior Davis Cup final in 2009 and served as a coach on the 2015 Davis Cup winning team and is currently working with Kyle Edmund.
The whole experience has left Ivan determined to try and qualify again in 2022 or 2023.
The Road to Wimbledon is an initiative staged by the All England Lawn Tennis Club to promote both junior and grass court tennis in the UK and across the globe
