Meads first team ended the year with a tremendous 3-1 victory at home over a strong David Lloyd second team.
The Meads number one pair of Ollie Miller and Noel Bennett were in glorious form in their first match racing to a 6-1; 6-0 victory in just half an hour. Meanwhile Meads second pair of Daniel Wasp and Mike Dixon were battling hard against a young and talented David Lloyd pair in a tense encounter. It was the Meads pair who were best able to hold their nerve though winning both sets on tie breaks to ensure that at the half way stage Meads were 2-0 up.
The reverse matches saw the first pairs engaged in a keenly contested tussle with Miller and Bennett taking the first set 6-4 before losing the second 5-7 and then the tie break. Wasp and Dixon came through 6-3; 7-5 in their match with Wasp sending down a series of booming serves that proved too hot for David Lloyd to handle. Captain Noel Bennett said, “I’m delighted that we’ve finished the year on such a high. I’m also really chuffed for our second pair, Wasp and Dixon who have maintained their 100% winning record in 2019 when playing together.”
