On the 5th January we heard the news that one of our Life Vice Presidents, Nick Greenwood, sadly passed away peacefully. There are many accolades that we can pay to Nick, his significant contributions to tennis in Sussex, the respect so many had for him, for his love of tennis, for his advice, knowledge and experience.
Richard Walmsley, a former Men’s Captain and friend has written the following:
“Nick Greenwood was a Sussex junior, played at junior Wimbledon, a senior and County Captain over many years and continued competing and captaining Sussex teams well into the seniors (veteran) levels. He had immense passion for tennis, and particularly for Sussex tennis, which continued long after his role as County Captain ended. Over the quarter century I was involved with the Sussex men’s teams I do not remember any of the county weeks pass without Nick making the treck (often long distance) to come to support us in our group, either with his lovely wife Chris, or with his erstwhile pal and fellow Sussex supporter, Mike Comber. A very tenacious, talented and fair minded competitor, who then became a very wise council for the Tennis Sussex Committee and a nationally respected County President by the L.T.A. Truly a lifelong supporter of Sussex Tennis.”
Our thoughts and best wishes go to Chris, Nick’s wife and all his family.
The attached is the nomination Tennis Sussex sent to the LTA for the 2012 LTA Meritorious Award which he was awarded.
