LTA Padel Coaching Pathway
Tennis or padel coaching is a fun, exciting and highly rewarding way for people of all ages and abilities to get more involved in the game, but where do you get started? From these, you can go on to undertake further qualifications or training to specialise more in grassroots tennis, performance tennis or coaching a specific audience such as youth, adults or disability.
We have four different entry points into coaching – each targeted at different people: LTA Youth Tennis Leaders (young people aged 11-18), Pre, LTA Assistant (women), LTA Assistant (Level 1) and LTA Padel Instructor.

Course duration and structure
There are two separate components to LTA Qualifications: Training and Assessment.
- Training: The LTA Padel Instructor course consists of five days of face-to-face training, separated by a minimum of four weeks. This allows time for eight hours’ work experience and coursework completion).
- For the LTA Padel Instructor course, the five days of learning are split into core and elective days. There are four days of core training and one day of elective. You will need to be successful in your application to be considered for the Core Training – elective training is booked (and paid for) on the LTA Course Search Tool.
- Assessment: Final assessments are conducted during a real-life lesson of your choice, at a padel venue of your choice. Assessments are recorded by you (using smartphone equipment) and then submitted virtually by video upload. For more details please see the Assessments page.

Full course information
Before the course all learners will need a DBS through the LTA before they start the course. The link to this area of the website is here. There is a digital ID check now as an option which has made things easier for a lot of people doing this check, but we can still help them to organise a face-to-face ID check this doesn’t work for you.
Readiness Test- this is booked through the LTA site (here and then filter for Readiness Tests) and involves filming videos of on court tasks which are then sent to the LTA. This can be bypassed if the coach is top 100 in the LTA Padel Rankings. To reduce the worry around filming or getting the tasks correct we have organised these 4 filming sessions where coaches can come to Padel Box, where we will provide a hitter and set up the camera: See dates and time below.

Before Summative Assessment…
Core Training- information above.
Elective- learners must complete a 5-hour short course, either How to Coach the Double Glass OR Coaching Kids Padel. There are options for these online which can be found here.
First Aid- learners must complete a 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work course. This costs £120 with Virtus and they can be found here.
Mentoring- This is not a regular part of the course, but we are offering all learners to have a 1-hour mentoring session with a tutor at the end of the course. This would aim to increase the learner’s confidence ahead of their summative assessment but also give them insight/advice regarding opportunities in coaching.
Summative Assessment– this can be booked through the LTA website (here and then filter for Assessments) and involves filming a 30-minute coaching session. This costs £55.
