The Sussex Match Play Championship – August 24th – August 29th. Enter now

Tennis Sussex would like to invite any player 18U and whose play or birth County is Sussex,  to play in our Sussex Match Play Championships that will take place the week of the 24th August instead of our normal County Championships (The County Championships).

We have carefully put together a plan for the week to try to give you players an opportunity to play some competitive County singles and doubles against your Sussex peers and friends whilst keeping within the Government and LTA Covid-19 safety measures.

The format for each Match Play event will be a maximum of 15 players and where possible (if necessary) we will run multiple draws of 15 players in an age group at different times and / or venues. Across all age groups in both singles and doubles (where applicable) the Match Play events will be played through until a final two players are left who will be invited to play their final on Saturday 29th August. Please note that we may decide to play the final match on the same day as your other matches though depending on the number of entries in each event. Finalists for each event will be presented with a prize.

The match format for singles events will be ‘Fast4’ with a cost of £10 per entry and the doubles events will be ‘Timed Tennis’ with a cost of £5 per player. The main venue for the majority, if not all of the Match Play events will be Southdown Sports Club (Cockshut Road, Lewis, BN7 3PR) and we are extremely grateful to the club for supporting us to put on our (adapted) week again this year, especially in these challenging times.

Regarding the social distancing safety measures, the site will be clearly marked to ensure that social distancing is adhered to at all times. We will also split the site into 2 completely separate Match Play zones. To help keep the players and everyone else safe throughout the week, in the same way that the senior ‘return to competition’ events have been running, we will strictly ask that;

  • Each player only brings one other person (guest) to attend during their match
  • Players (and guests) only arrive at the time they’re told to come
  • Players (and guests) leave the site as soon as they’re asked to do so

Obviously under normal circumstances we would never ask this of you and would of course normally be delighted to see as many of you there for as much of the week as possible. Hopefully by us all playing our part in keeping to all of the Government’s guidelines this will be the case again for next year!
