Sussex was pleased to host two disability events as part of its annual County Championships event this August. On Saturday 27th August a VI event was held for players in B1 and B2-4 categories at Southdown Sports Club in Lewes. The event consisted of both singles and doubles matches and was keenly contested with Jess Marshall (B1) and Chris Baily (B2-B4) emerging as the winners of the singles. Our thanks to our wonderful young volunteers who supported the players during the matches.
This event was followed by a wheelchair event held at the Weald Tennis and Squash Club in Hassocks. The club hosts a very successful weekly wheelchair session and so was the perfect place to host this event. 5 players competed with Andrew Penney (Hampshire) being crowned the winner and Sussex’s Adam Field the runner up.
Gill Andersson, a Sussex LTA referee, who took charge of both events and said “Two really great events with some quality tennis on show. The standard seems to get better every year. I also would like to repeat Liz’s thanks to the young helpers on Saturday, Luca, Ben, Harrison, Aaron and Alfie. Thanks also to Mick McCarron for, after a long week, coming over to the Weald on Sunday to take the photos.”
