Tennis Sussex League’s

Tennis Sussex organise leagues throughout the year. These leagues provide venues with the opportunity of fun, enjoyable and competitive tennis for their members at the appropriate playing standard. Leagues comprise of formats that enable both singles and doubles play. Further information can be found below for specific leagues. All clubs that enter our league are Sussex LTA affiliated venues.

TDS Ultra Doubles Leagues

The TDS Ultra Leagues our are biggest competition and one of the largest doubles leagues in Great Britain. The TDS Ultra Leagues are played at weekends throughout East & West Sussex. They include Men’s and Women’s events.

The format of the TDS Ultra Leagues is made up of many divisions, where teams are promoted and relegated each year. The winter and summer leagues run separately, so promotion/relegation in one season will only impact the same season the following year.

Each season a team will have up to 7 matches and each match is against another club in Sussex with the lower leagues split between East & West to reduce travel. 

Matches consist of 4 player teams is doubles only. We are lucky to have such a variety of standards across the leagues, from those new to competition to County standards.

John Barton Cup

The John Barton Cup named after a former Tennis Sussex Chairman (pictured left) and is for Male players who obtain the minimum age of 45 as at 31st December in any given year.

Matches consist of 4 player teams in doubles only. The standard of play is generally upper Club standards to County Standards and played either weekdays or weekends.

The format of the Leagues dependant on entries and will be either one league or two leagues split East & West and is a Summer Event only. In the event of two leagues the winner of each league will play off for the Cup. Matches consist of 4 player teams in doubles only.

Mike Comber Cup

The event is named after a gentleman who was instrumental in the setting of League Tennis in Sussex. The event is Mixed Doubles for Ladies who obtain the age of 40 and Men 45 as at 31st December in any given year. 

The format of the Leagues will be split East & West and is a Summer Event only and played generally weekday evenings with the home team providing suitable refreshments after the matches have finished. 

The winner of each league will play a further match against the runner up from the opposite league with the winners then playing each other to determine the winner of the Cup.

Matches consist of 4 player teams in doubles only.

Les Dart Cup

An event for Men over 55 & Ladies over 50 as of 31st December of any given year

Les main involvement in tennis was through his many years as men’s match secretary at West Worthing Club both at its old site (Downsview Road) and at its present site.

Les was also a member of the Tennis Sussex General Committee as a representative for West Sussex and leagues Secretary.  Les was also a qualified LTA Referee running County week and many other local tournaments.

The format of the Leagues will be split East & West and is a Summer Event only and played generally weekday evenings with the home team providing suitable refreshments after the matches have finished. 

The winner of each league will play a further match against the runner up from the opposite league with the winners then playing each other to determine the winner of the Cup.

Matches consist of 4 player teams in doubles only.

Presidents Cup

This event is for Gentleman over 60 as at 31st December in any given year

The format of the Leagues is generally one round robin box with all teams playing each other between May and October. 

Matches consist of 4 player teams in doubles only with the standard of play generally being “good” club Level.
